Hmm...upon reading th article it does givea good insight. I can fully understand the ides of a misconseption of whether a lobster can feel emotions such as pain and fear. I honestly believe it probably does, it may not be as intelligent as some other creatures but it must feel some kind of emotions to react to its outside stimuli Would it protect itself against a predator if it didnt feel fear? Without conscious state of mind it might not feel the need to protect itself. That survival instinct might be based on the fact that it knows there's something to protect. The idea that a computer feels pain? Still a little far fetched to me. I cant envisage a computer feeling the sad or angry. Though it has been suggested that computers hate Mondays before Ya never know until you test the theory i guess As for the God thing, I still do not believe that God is a plausible idea, no matter how much people have preached to me so far i remain unconvinced. Hence i have no real further comment on that one, because i feel it too...unbelieveable for my taste

i'm sure that animals outside humans are conscious, and have emotions. but in all likelihood, the emotions are very undeveloped, unlike humans. it's probably very basic, like fear, pain, happiness, and anger, but probably not much more than that.
on the case of computers, i think it is possible to create computers that are capable of advanced thought, perhaps advanced emotions. pain is an interesting idea. it would probably be be like amount of pressure or temperature per set area, combined with a human-like pain response.

In the case of artificial intelligence it would be imperative for computers to gain emotion before consciousness, if it were possible. I suggest this mainly so they can develop a sense of empathy, and guilt of mis-action against other things capable of emotion/thought. If this is not met then the basic imperatives of life would dominate, thus there is no restraints for the computers to become the dominant life form on the planet. But then again the same thing could be said about some humans, they have no empathy in their actions, and thus have no quarrel killing for what they want.
