The large machine is located at the CERN lab in Geneva, Switzerland. It is 27 km long and is both inside Switzerland and France. The first beam is expected to be fired in September. The machine was built to discover the nature of hadrons and has been proposed to be able to solve the mystery behind string theory. Source: news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7547118.stm

I recall seeing this website way back when it first came out, it was brilliant. Hopefully they'll be able to fix the machine soon and collide the beams.

here's to hoping. *crosses fingers*
it will be fascinating what they learn. in all probability, it will most likely be something we already knew, or something incredibly inexplicable.
