I'd imagne that this would be the consequence of age. After all, all cell processes decline in reliability as the body gets older, so i'd expect gamete production to have the same fate. Meaning that many of the cells have the wrong chromosomes and become inviable, and self exterminating like other cells in the body. The few that get away have the defect, and if they fertalise an egg then there may be a problem with the foetus. Times that with the problems create dby the woman's failing system, and ou have a problem. So i agree with what the article suggests entirely
